The touch of excellence

The complete job for a cleaning company in Brevard County, Florida: we created the brand from scratch, wrote its identity manual and built its website, so a business starting with nothing could compete and earn a place in its market.

The challenge

Yaly was starting from scratch. She knew how to do the work and had nothing to present herself with: no name that read as a company, no piece of material that identified her, no way of turning up when someone in Brevard went looking for who to call. Work came in by referral, from one house to the one next door, and that was the ceiling. Word of mouth only reaches so far, and to get into an office or sign a monthly contract you have to look like a company before anyone opens the door. That was the brief: build the business from the beginning and give it something to compete with.

What we did

We started from the name, because it already said what the business sold: “Yaly Touch” is Yaly's touch. We designed the mark from there —the sparkle wand is that touch— and ran the stroke of the “Y” on underneath to the end of “Touch”, so a single line stitches the two words and the name reads as one unit rather than two pieces pushed together. We built it on Parkinsans ExtraBold, tilted 10 degrees to give it forward motion and with the vertices rounded, which takes the hardness off without making it soft. Then we wrote the manual, which is what lets a brand survive every pair of hands it's going to pass through: we fixed the minimum air around the logo, tested how far it can shrink before it's lost, chose two blues that lead and four supporting colors with their equivalents for print and for screen, and resolved the most fragile case of all —the mark over a photograph— with an oval version of its own. With that system settled we built the site. We poured the manual's values into a single file from which the colors, the type and the spacing of the whole website come, so nothing can drift by accident. And we gave each service its own page, in English and in Spanish, so the company stops competing only for its name and turns up when someone searches for exactly what they need.

The result

Yaly Touch now reads the same on the car magnet, on the polo's embroidery and on a phone screen, because all three come from the same file and the same rule. The brand stopped being something that had to be explained and became the first thing a customer recognises. And the business competes where it wasn't before. Each service has its own page and answers its own search, so someone who needs a move-out clean or the upkeep of an office lands straight on it, in the language they searched in. The lettered car works even when parked: every house it enters leaves an ad on that street for the whole day. And the reviews customers leave on Google are read on their website too, with their names and their words.

The brand manual

The touch, drawn inside the name

The touch, drawn inside the name

We understood that the name was already selling the service —“Yaly Touch” is Yaly's touch— so we didn't want an ornament hung beside the text. We drew the sparkle wand as that touch and ran the stroke of the “Y” on underneath to the end of “Touch”: a single line stitches the two words. We built it on Parkinsans ExtraBold, at a 10-degree tilt to give it forward motion and with the vertices rounded to 0.25 mm.

Two versions, so it fits anywhere

Two versions, so it fits anywhere

We resolved the logo horizontally and vertically, with the symbol beside the text or centred above it, so the brand doesn't depend on the shape of whatever gap it lands in. We added “Cleaning Services” as the descriptor —it says what the business does before anyone asks— and “Excellence is our standard” as the slogan.

The air it's owed, and how far it shrinks

The air it's owed, and how far it shrinks

We set a clear margin around the logo measured on the height of its own “L”, and nothing occupies that space. We tested the reduction too: down to 20% of its original size the whole thing still reads, and below that the contrast goes, so we avoid it.

Two blues that lead

Two blues that lead

We chose Prussian Blue as the brand's ground and Violet Blue as the color that acts, with Anti-flash White for breathing room. We documented each with its HEX, its RGB and its CMYK, because a vehicle wrap and a printed card aren't ordered the same way, and on the website we added their measured contrast so no unreadable combination reaches production.

Over a photograph, the oval

Over a photograph, the oval

A logo with no ground of its own gets lost the moment there's a photograph underneath: where the image lightens the white disappears, and where it darkens the blue does. We resolved it with versions for light grounds, for dark grounds and, for photography, the logo inside a white oval.

One typeface to headline, another to read

One typeface to headline, another to read

We reserved Parkinsans ExtraBold for the logo and the headlines, where its character adds something, and chose Inter in Regular and Light for long text, where a typeface with personality tires the reader. The same pair governs print and web alike.

Six ways to break it

Six ways to break it

We devoted a full page to what isn't done, drawn out rather than merely stated: changes of proportion, changes of typeface, colors outside the palette, the secondary colors on the mark itself, and placing it over images with no contrast. It isn't there to limit whoever designs, but so the brand survives the hands it's going to pass through.
